Pinay teen places third in The Voice Israel
A Filipina teenager won third place in the final episode of The Voice Israel for its fourth season last Saturday, nearly three years after the last Filipino talent placed in the finals of the reality singing show.
Ezra Joy Ng, 17, entered the final round with her version of "California Dreamin'" and a duet with mentor and Israeli singer Miri Mesika.
Ng's father flew in from Pangasinan to see his daughter perform with grand winner Sapir Saban and Nitzan Shayer in the last leg of the competition after years of not seeing each other.
Philippine Ambassador to Israel Neal Imperial congratulated the teen and called her triumph an affirmation of the Filipinos in the performing arts.
"Joy's outstanding performance in the finals made us all proud to be Filipinos in Israel," Imperial said in a statement.
"Despite being the youngest finalist, she showed grit and tenacity and her voice never waivered," he added. "She has become a uniting figure for all Filipinos in Israel."
