Contractor fined for illegal employment offences

SINGAPORE : A contractor and his cleaning company have been fined more than
$280,000 for offences relating to illegal employment of foreign workers.

Vincent Goh Seng How was fined $202,800 on 20 November 2007 on 36 charges
of abetting illegal employment of foreign workers and for obstructing an
MOM employment inspector from carrying out investigations.

The Manpower Ministry (MOM) investigations showed that between July 2002
and September 2006, Goh had illegally deployed 94 construction and marine
workers from his companies, C.X.M. General Contractor and 2001 Image
Enterprise, to various housing estates as cleaners.

MOM said Goh had also illegally employed seven foreign workers to be
conservancy workers.

A fine of $81,400 was also imposed on Goh's cleaning company, C.X.M.
General Contractor, on 11 charges relating to illegal employment offences.

Goh and his company will be debarred from hiring foreign workers.

In August 2004, C.X.M. General Contractor was fined $10,500 for illegally
employing foreign workers without valid work permits. - CNA/de
