Philippines reports 989 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 50K

By RICHA NORIEGA, GMA News Published March 3, 2022 4:02pm The Philippines on Thursday logged 989 new COVID-19 cases increasing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,664,905. Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest bulletin, the new cases brought the country's active case count to 50,458, of which 463 are asymptomatic, 45,510 are mild, 2,773 are moderate, 1,415 are severe, and 297 are critical. The DOH said of the 989 reported cases on Thursday, 879 or 89% occurred within the recent 14 days from February 18 to March 3, 2022. Among the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 192 or 22%, followed by Region 4-A with 111 or 13% and Region 7 with 101 or 11%. The number of recoveries rose to 3,557,909 after 1,349 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease. The country’s death toll climbed to 56,538 with 34 new fatalities. Meanwhile, the Philippines’ COVID-19 positivity rate was at 4.5% which is slightly lower than the 4.7% positivity rate on Wednesday, but both within the World Health Organization's requirement target of 5% positivity rate. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were at 27,143. The latest data also showed that 25% of 3,700 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use. At least 14% of the 14,000 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 24% of the 3,900 ward beds in the NCR were in use. The DOH said all laboratories were operational since March 1, while there were five laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. It reported four duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, three are recoveries and two deaths. Meanwhile, at least 26 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.—LDF, GMA News
