September 07, 2018   By Cristina Lee-Pisco   People's Journal THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will extend all possible assistance to a Filipina domestic helper in Kuwait who was arrested by authorities for allegedly stabbing her employer. In a statement, the DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait is assisting the distressed household service worker from Maguindanao and is in touch with Kuwaiti authorities investigating her case. “Our Embassy in Kuwait continues to look after our kababayan Ulambai Singgayan and is coordinating with authorities to ensure that her rights are protected,” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola said. “Ulambai and her family here in the Philippines have our assurance that the DFA will provide her with legal and other assistance that she may require,” Arriola said. In a speech before around 2,000 members of the Filipino community in Amman, Duterte said the Philippine government has talked with the Jordanian government about the undocumented Filipinos in the kingdom during his visit to King Abdullah II Thursday. DFA offers P5K aid for Ompong-stricken OFWs

September 16, 2018   By Cristina Lee-Pisco   People's Journal AFP photo THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will be extending P5,000 financial assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) if their scheduled travel to or from the Philippines is affected by super typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut). In a statement, the DFA confirmed the cash assistance to affected overseas workers that was announced by Foreign Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano during the Command Conference on Typhoon Ompong chaired by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in Camp Aguinaldo on Thursday. “The President has directed the DFA to prioritize the concerns of our overseas workers and in line with this, we are extending cash assistance of P5,000 to those who would be stranded in our airports or seaports while on their way to or from destinations abroad,”  Cayetano said. Lower placement fees to Israel to be finalized this week —OWWA

Published  September 2, 2018 4:18pm  The Philippines and Israel are set to finalize this week an agreement that would effectively reduce placement fees for aspiring overseas Filipino workers. In an interview aired on the Facebook account of Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said the agreements are set to be finalized in Israel during the president's visit to the Mideast country this week.
