150 OFW kids given OWWA scholarships

MANILA, Philippines - One hundred and fifty children of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) have been granted scholarships by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

In a statement, OWWA said that the 150 applicants were granted the scholarships for passing the examination for the agency’s Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP).

The top two placers of the examination were Kevin Loyola Leaño and Jon Dewitt Enriquez Dalisay.

Leaño is the son of a consumer goods manufacturing facility manager in China. He will be taking up Computer Science at the Ateneo De Manila University.

Dalisay, on the other hand, is the child of a sea-based OFW. He will be taking up Mechanical Engineering at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

The whole list of the EDSP scholars for school year 2009-2010 may be viewed at the OWWA website.

This is already the sixth batch of students that were awarded scholarships by the agency. - Kimberly Jane T. Tan, GMANews.TV
