Illegal recruiter arrested in sting operation
MANILA, Philippines - A 47-year-old woman has been arrested by the Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment (Tfair) for illegally recruiting Filipinos to work in the United Arab Emirates.
Vice President Noli De Castro, head of the task force, said that Remedios Briones Razon of Caloocan City was arrested last week during an entrapment operation conducted inside a fast food chain in Baclaran, Parañaque City.
He said the case stemmed from the complaints of six aspiring overseas Filipino workers who were each asked to pay P15,000 to Razon in exchange for jobs as domestic helpers in Dubai.
The suspect was not authorized by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to conduct any recruitment activities, De Castro said in a press statement.
He identified the victims as Angela Abaya, Michelle Advincula, Chona Rivera, Alejandra Balbin, Milleth Villaruel, and Laarni Ishibashi.
“They personally appeared and lodged their complaints against the suspect before the Tfair office which immediately conducted its investigation and entrapment operation," he said.
Seized from the suspect were the marked money, victims’ passports, and mobile phones.
Razon is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 8042 or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 and of Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Person Act of 2003. - Kimberly Jane T. Tan, GMANews.TV
