Filipina nabbed for sending OFWs to Malaysia illegally
MANILA, Philippines A 50-year-old woman accused of sending undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFW) to Malaysia has been arrested by the Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment.
Vice President Noli De Castro, chairman of the task force, said they arrested Corazon Hernandez Salandanan of Batangas City at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Pamapanga after three victims pinpointed her last week.
De Castro identified the victims as Julian Carpio Pajautan Jr., Chona Sapin Perez, and Lesley Martija Sison – all of whom came from Laguna and were illegally deployed to Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia as domestic helpers.
Seized from the Salandanan were her passport, Western Union and Cebu Pacific receipts, Malaysian working visas, Air Asia travel itineraries, requirements for employment and visa application, and a list of applicants and their contact details.
De Castro said the recruiter has been brought to the national police headquarters, Camp Crame, in Quezon City. She is now facing cases for violation of Republic Act No. 8042 or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 and of Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Person Act of 2003. - Kimberly Jane T.
