Authentication of documents important, POEA tells OFWs
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) recently reminded overseas Filipino workers (OFW) that having their documents authenticated before going abroad is very important.
“Documents coming from where they are working abroad must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and by the Philippine Embassy accredited to that country, if they want to use the said documents anywhere else in the world later on," the POEA said on its website.
The POEA issued the warning in light of the increasing number of Filipinos trying to go abroad using fake documents. [See: BI bars four undocumented OFWs from leaving at Clark Field]
According to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, more than four million Filipinos worked abroad in 2007.
About 900,000 of this number, however, were reportedly undocumented. - Kimberly Jane T. Tan, GMANews.TV
