The rise in number of illegal foreign workers in Vietnam is prompting the Vietnamese government to strictly monitor foreign nationals working there, the Philippine Embassy in Hanoi reported Wednesday.

In a report to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Philippine Embassy in Hanoi noted an increasing number of Filipinos who enter Vietnam as tourists and subsequently secure employment as household service workers. It said foreign household service helpers are not allowed to work in Vietnam.

To regulate the influx of illegal foreign workers in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Labor Ministry has recommended to the Ministry of Public Security the modification and amendment of the regulations pertaining to the entry of foreigners into Vietnam, especially on the classification of the purpose of entry. The regulations on the issuance of working visas are now being tightened by Vietnamese authorities.

The embassy said the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) in Vietnam has required all municipalities and agencies to provide a list of local enterprises employing foreign workers for inspection by the Ministry.

It said the Labor Ministry has also requested the Ministry of Public Security to deport unregistered foreign laborers, who are likewise imposed administrative fines.
