31 Pinay victims of human trafficking rescued in Malaysia
At least 31 Filipino women were rescued in an operation conducted by Malaysian immigration operatives last Thursday, a Malaysian news site reported over the weekend.
The women were rescued in a condominium in Taman Tun Dr Ismail following a three-month monitoring by immigration officers, Malaysia's The Star reported.
But at least two other Filipinas were detained on suspicion they worked with the syndicate, the report added.
The report quoted Immigration Department director (enforcement) Mohd Zamberi Abdul Aziz as saying the women were kept in two residential units.
He said none of the 31 had their passports, adding they may have entered Malaysia via social visit passes as tourists or as students.
Syndicate members monitored their movements using a closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, the report said.
An investigation showed the women would be taken out to work daily at nightclubs around the Klang Valley, then brought back to the residence.
Following the raid by a 44-member team led by deputy assistant director Noraizan Bidin, the department has secured interim protection orders for the 31 victims.
Mohd Zamberi urged the public to inform the department if they knew of any illegal activities being carried out at 1-800-22-6969 or at 03-88801555/03-88801556. — LBG, GMA News
