DFA: Pinay dies in Kuwait but cause still being determined

ANDREI MEDINA, GMA NEWS The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday confirmed that a Filipina worker in Kuwait died but said the circumstances surrounding her death are still being determined. In a text message to GMA News Online, DFA spokesperson Raul Hernandez said the Philippine embassy in Kuwait is already "processing the death certificate of Ms. Florinda Hernandez Hamos (a.k.a Shasha Camiliyan).” “They are also ascertaining the true cause of her death,” he said. He added that the embassy “will provide us with an update as soon as it becomes available.” Earlier this week, a concerned netizen — Ysmael Clamor Padullon — shared with GMA News Online a message circulating on Facebook about the case of Amot. The Facebook message read in part: "Nananawagan ako sa inyong lahat kung sino man ang nakakakilala sa isa nating kababayan na OFW dito sa Kuwait, namatay ito kahapon sa sakit na tuberculosis dito sa Hospital Alsabah, Kuwait." Tuberculosis is defined by the World Health Organization as an infectious bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most commonly affects the lungs. The post also said: "Florinda Amot ang pangalan po niya sa pasaporte pero napag-alaman na ang pangalang kanyang ginamit sa pasaporte ay hindi niya tunay na pangalan. Shasha Camliyain ang totoong pangalan, taga-Zamboanga City, 33 years old, dalaga, Muslim, at ang tribu ay Tausog." GMA News Online cannot independently verify the facts stated on the post circulating on Facebook. A public service announcement on the Diversity Human website also published the post circulating on Facebook. According to the Facebook post, the remains of the Filipina cannot be repatriated to the Philippines because no one knows her address. Concerned people are relying on social networking sites to reach her brother, Arcel Camliyain. - VVP, GMA News
