Consultancy office padlocked for illegal recruitment

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration yesterday padlocked the office of KPM Hotelier Consultancy Services in Ermita, Manila for recruitment of Filipino workers for overseas employment without a valid license or authority from the Department of Labor and Employment and POEA.. Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said he ordered the closure of KPM Hotelier Consultancy Services after verification by POEA operatives of the complaint filed by an applicant for alleged illegal recruitment activities.“Posing as jobseekers, our operatives were told by a staff of KPM Hotelier that they provide training for those who wish to work in 5-star hotels abroad at a cost of P4,500 per person,” Cacdac said.According to the surveillance report, KPM Hotelier has announcements of job vacancies for hotels in Qatar, Kuwait and Dubai outside its office. The report also cited that the staff assured the operatives of the availability of the said job orders and the placement fee shall be equivalent to one month salary except for Qatar where no placement fee shall be collected. “The maintenance of an office with advertisements of job openings and countries of destination, entertaining queries of applicants regarding requirements, and giving out application forms to applicants are acts of recruitment which could be done only bylicensed agencies,” said Cacdac. Cacdac further cautioned applicants of a similar modus operandi committed through emails recruiting workers for non-existent hospital jobs in the U.S.A. and United Kingdom and collecting fees for supposed training on English language and other “self-improvement”courses.
