DFA: Four children among 37 Pinoys arriving from strife-torn Syria
At least 37 more Filipinos, four of them children, are due to arrive home from strife-torn Syria on Monday and Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Sunday.
The DFA said two of the children are eight years old, while the two others are aged 11 and 15.
"Three of them are children of a former Filipino community leader, while one was born to a Filipino mother and a Syrian father," it said.
According to the DFA, the four children and six other repatriated Filipinos are due home aboard an Emirates flight arriving at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday
On the other hand, 27 more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are due to arrive in Manila at 10:10 p.m. Monday aboard another Emirates flight.
The DFA said these latest repatriates are in addition to a total of 10 other Filipinos who arrived from Syria on June 26, 27, and 29.
As of July 3, at least 1,734 Filipinos have been repatriated since the Philippines declared crisis alert level 4 and started enforcing a mandatory repatriation plan in Syria in December 2011.
Meanwhile, the DFA reiterated its appeal to the next-of-kin of Filipinos in Syria to provide its Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs (OUMWA) with current information about their loved ones' present location and their contact details in Syria.
It said they can call (02) 834-3245 or (02) 834-3240. — LBG, GMA News
