Electronic exit clearance now available for Pinoys in UAE

Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will now find it easier to get their exit clearances, thanks to a new electronic application system, a report of the news site Gulf News said. The new system is expected to get rid of the long queues at the Philippine embassy or consulate where some 1,000 Filipinos apply for exit clearances a day, Gulf News reported. Before the electronic system, Filipinos had to endure queues to get an “exit clearance” or the overseas employment certificate (OEC). Until now, those who fail to get an exit clearance may have to face even longer queues back home to obtain one. The clearance costs Dh10, but its issuance is tied to other mandatory requirements such as health insurance payment, home mutual fund membership and registration fee with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. An exit clearance under the scheme will cost P2,700 (about Dh270). It covers OEC processing, renewal of OWWA and Philhealth memberships, Pag-IBIG contribution, Teleserv’s service fee, and the delivery charge. While an applicant will initially pay the amount, the applicant is entitled to a refund if his or her OWWA and Philhealth memberships remain valid at the time of application. The amount will be refunded along with the delivery of the OEC anywhere in the Philippines. Gulf News said the electronic exit clearance is a joint project of Manila-based call center firm Teleserv, and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). - VVP, GMA News
