Pinoys in Saudi praised for dedication, hard work
Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Tayeb, director general of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, praised Filipinos for their hard work and for their dedication to their jobs.
On Philippine Independence Day on June 12, Tayeb thanked Filipino workers, for their contribution to the health and construction industries.
He particularly thanked Filipino nannies for taking good care of Saudi children.
“I would like to congratulate particularly the Filipino ladies who won the heart of our children and some of them already love their Filipino nannies more than their own mothers,” Tayeb said.
Meanwhile, Philippine Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay thanked the Saudi government for its support to Filipino workers.
“Our strong partnership compliments our continuing efforts to achieve further progress and development for both of our countries,” Garibay said.
The Consul General urged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to continue giving their best in their work and being a good example to others.
OFWs in Saudi Arabia held a month-long celebration of the 114th anniversary of Philippine Independence.
The celebration, with the theme “Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan,” included the 2nd Kalayaan Cup Badminton Tournament on June 8.
OFW Meljun M. Fabicon, Chairman of the Badminton tournament and President of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) said the activities were organized by the Philippine Consulate General headed by the Trade Attaché Attorney Paizal Abdullah.
On June 12, the Philippine Consulate held a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a reading of messages from Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III and other government officials in Jeddah.
A diplomatic night, organized by the Philippine Consulate, was also held at the Al-Sultan Ballroom in Hotel Intercontinental.
It was attended by members from different diplomatic core, business groups and other Filipino organizations in Jeddah.
Independence Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898 by General Emilio Aguinaldo and Filipino revolutionary forces from the Spanish colonization. - Ronaldo Concha, Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
