MANILA, Philippines – With less than a month before the end of the registration period, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco in the US and in Milan, Italy have intensified efforts to promote overseas absentee voting among Filipinos.
In San Francisco, a total of 45 Filipinos aboard the Zuiderdam Cruise Ship of Holland America Line successfully registered for the OAV last October 2.
“It is important that we give every opportunity to our kababayans to take part in shaping the future of our country,” said Consul General Marciano Paynor Jr.
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco conducted the OAV registration during the vessel's temporary berthing at the San Francisco Cruise Terminal.
“Registering for OAV will give them the capability to exercise their right to vote and help chart the political future of the Philippines,” added Paynor.
Paynor likewise thanked Myles Williams, the human resource manager of Zuiderdam for making the event possible.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Consulate General in Milan said they have reached 10,000 new OAV registrants last September 7.
The consulate has recently rendered registration services in Bologna, Modena and Genova in Italy. The OAV team will also conduct a mobile mission on board a cruise ship in Venice in the coming days.
The deadline for OAV registration is on October 31, 2012.
