PHL Embassy in Saudi closed Oct 27-28 for Eid El-Adha

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia announced over the weekend that it will be closed on October 27 and 28 for the Eid El-Adha holidays.

In an announcement on its website, the embassy said regular working days will resume on Oct. 29, Monday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

But during the holidays, it said Filipinos may contact the following numbers in case of emergencies:

  • Labor-related issues: 0564024995
  • Other concerns: 01-4802-3559, 480-1918, 482-3615

President Benigno Aquino III’s Proclamation 295, which specified holidays for 2012, had said the dates for Eid’l Fitr and Eid El-Adha will be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations.

It added the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall.

Earlier reports and some websites had indicated Eid El-Adha will fall on October 26.

Eid El-Adha, the feast of sacrifice, is an important religious holiday marking the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God.

Like a similar story in the Old Testament, God intervened and provided Abraham with a sheep to sacrifice instead. — RSJ, GMA News
