Recruitment of Pinay maids to Saudi Arabia may resume Oct. 1 — report
The recruitment of Filipino domestic workers to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia may resume on Monday, a report of the news site Arab News said.
A Saudi Labor Minister said the Philippines and the KSA reached an agreement on the issuance of work visas based on a contract agreeable to the two countries, Arab News reported.
“The standard contract will safeguard the rights of both the employee and the employer. It does not touch the privacy of the Saudi citizen,” KSA Deputy Labor Minister Mefrrij Al-Haqbani was quoted as saying.
Quoting a report of local daily Al-Madinah, Arab News said the recruitment of housemaids, drivers and cooks from the Philippines resumes after a lull of more than a year and a half.
The recruitment of housemaids from Indonesia and the Philippines was stopped about 18 months ago over differences with KSA on the rights of the housemaids.
KSA had turned to Ethiopia, Kenya, and other African and Central Asian countries after the recruitment of Filipino and Indonesian housemaids was stopped.
The Arab News report said the new contract between the Philippines and KSA did not include some of the terms and conditions earlier demanded by the Philippines, such as:
- the appearance of the Saudi sponsor before the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh;
- the submission of a police document showing that the sponsor has no criminal record;
- a statement about the sponsor's salary, and
- a sketch map indicating the sponsor's house.
