OFW guide: Are you a lover or a learner? Know your working style
To know others, know yourself first. This may be one of the oldest pieces of advice but also one of the best.
Knowing yourself will help you in almost every aspect of your life, including your professional life, thecareer site Monster.com said.
When you get to know yourself -- your wants, needs, ideals, dislikes — you can identify your working style and make it easier for you to deal with your co-workers.
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will give you an advantage when it comes to understanding how your personality adapts and flourishes at work.
To help you identify your working style, the business site Inc. compiled a list providing information on each style.
(1) Are you a doer?
Doers do one thing well, they execute tasks.
Whenever they complete tasks this gives them a sense of accomplishment. The bigger the project finished, the better they feel.
Their best strength is their ability to focus. However, this is also their greatest weakness as there are times when they forget to keep the lines of communication open due to their extreme focus.
(2) Are you a leader?
If doers execute, leaders inspire others to do things.
This inspiration is created with the leader's vision for the whole group and the company. Leaders are just so charismatic that you can't help but agree with their points and find the sense in their words.
However, leaders are swamped with worrying about others' output since their effectiveness as a leader is measured by their subordinate's performance.
(3) Are you a lover?
Lovers focus on building relationships with other co-workers and superiors. They usually have a large network spanning various departments and know most of the current company issues.
The best thing about lovers is that they care for everybody in the team and have the initiative to look out for them, especially during times you least expected someone to be there to the rescue.
They also make people feel great through empathy. Unfortunately, they sometimes put more priority to being in the social know how than providing output.
(4) Are you a learner?
The fourth working style is the learner. Learners are the type who like to know what makes something tick.
Armed with discipline, patience and a strategic mind, learners love to acquire more information through research and planning.
But without others, learners are limited to what they can accomplish. It is mostly the doers who help learners realize their plans. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
