Remains of Pinay found dead in Lebanon arrive home
The remains of an overseas Filipina worker who was found dead in Lebanon last February were finally brought home to the Philippines Saturday.
From Lebanon, the remains of Criselda Canonigo arrived in a box at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, radio dzBB reported early Sunday.
But while Canonigo's relatives received the remains, they remained doubtful about what caused the death of their loved one, the report said.
They added they have heard nothing from Canonigo's employer on the cause of her death.
A separate report on "24 Oras" said the Department of Foreign Affairs assured the relatives it will keep tabs on the investigation into Canonigo's death.
Last February, relatives of Canonigo said she had been maltreated by her employer especially in the days before her death.
Criselda's sister Maricel said the victim was recruited and deployed to Lebanon last May.
Maricel said Criselda was crying and complaining about maltreatment by her employer when they last talked Feb. 4. She recalled Criselda saying her employer was shouting at her, and throwing items such as figurines at her.
A report on "State of the Nation" cited initial findings that Criselda was found dead Feb. 15. A fellow worker supposedly saw her climb the balcony and prepare to jump.
