On 14 February, OFWs and their families were treated to an atmosphere of ‘love’ and ‘care’ at the OWWA Center in Pasay City as the nation celebrates Valentine’s Day,  popularly known as ‘Love Day”, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) announced.

With the theme: “OFWs sa Araw ng Mga Puso, Naaalala Ka , Kahit Malayo Ka!”,  OFWs and their loved ones were treated to a plethora of  activities at the OWWA Center in Pasay City  that made their V- day memorable and meaningful. From 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., while transacting business  with  the  Agency, OFW  clients enjoyed free calls, health lecture,  and free blood pressure check-up. A photo wall was likewise available during the occasion.

According to OWWA Administrator Carmelita S. Dimzon, the holding of said activities is consistent with the agency’s slogan “OWWA Cares.”  A message of simple, yet sincere delivery of programs and services at all times.  A chorale group serenaded the clients with sweet and mellow love songs. As an additional treat, a “dancing dragon” will make  the rounds  in each and every  office  frequented by OFWs and their families that will add glitter and  excitement to the festivities.

“On special occasion such as this, we wanted to take the opportunity to make a difference in the life of   OFWs and their families, especially OWWA members, by coming out with activities closest to their hearts,” the OWWA Chief added.

Highlight of the OWWA’s Valentine’s Day gifts to OFWs and their families was the lecture on the “Proper Care for the Heart”. The relevance of the topic was based on the data gathered by the Agency’s Health Care Benefits Unit.

According to the data provided by the said Unit, cardiac diseases such Cardio-respiratory Arrest, secondary to Acute Myocardial Infraction, Congestive Heart Failure , Rheumatic Heart Disease  ranks number 1 among health problems of OFWs. The Report said that from year 2007-212, some 559 cases of cardiac related ailments  were recorded, with 501 males and 58 females.

More than one thousand (1,000) OFWs enjoyed OWWA’s Valentine’s Day treats.
