Pinoy sailor hacked to death in Sri Lanka, 6 shipmates arrested
A Filipino sailor was hacked to death aboard a ship anchored at the Colombo Port in Sri Lanka Monday, while six of his shipmates linked to the killing surrendered to police Tuesday, a Sri Lankan news portal reported.
The report on Adaderana.lk said the Colombo Harbor Police has started taking statements from the six.
The Philippine Embassy is assisting the suspects, and has provided them a translator, the report added.
It described the victim as 37-years old. It added the victim was found dead "with severe cut injuries."
The report did not immediately name the victim or the six who were arrested.
An initial investigation showed the victim was killed, supposedly, after a dispute with the other sailors aboard the Taiwanese ship.
