"The allegations made against these embassy officials are extremely serious and are worth looking into. This is a classic example of abuse of power and a violation of the constitutional mandate that ‘public office is a public trust,” ayon kay Sen. Teofisto Guingona III, chairman ng komite.
Kabilang sa mga inimbitahan sa pagdinig sina Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Jesus Yabes, Office of Middle East and African Affairs Asec Petronila Garcia, DOLE Sec. Rosalinda Baldoz, OIC Director of International Labor Affairs Bureau Rodolfo Sabulao, Labor Attaché Adam Musa, and Assistant Labor Attache Antonio Villafuerte.
"If the allegations are true, we must determine how ingrained this practice is and how many were victimized. If necessary, we have to reform the existing repatriation mechanism to prevent similar cases. The helplessness and anguish our OFWs have felt must have been unfathomable,” ayon sa senador.
“We cannot allow erring officials to disgrace the whole bureaucracy of public service by using their authority to exploit our kababayan," giit pa ng mambabatas. — Linda Bohol /LBG, GMA News
