NBI arrests 4 recruiters who promised Pinays jobs abroad
A Filipino and three Japanese who promised 11 Filipinas jobs abroad as entertainers were arrested in a sting operation in Bulacan province last week.
The National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday said the prospective victims became suspicious of the suspects after one of them merely held auditions at his house.
NBI agents arrested in a sting operation last July 30 Marcial Ronquillo Bernardo; and Japanese nationals Masakazi Hiratsuka, Nobuharu Kobatake, and Teroo Tsuda from Tokyo.
Bernardo and his three companions were charged for violating the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, before the inquest prosecutor.
An investigation showed Bernardo and company allegedly promised the women jobs in Malaysia and Japan as models and entertainers.
The would-be victims were from Hagonoy and Malolos in Bulacan, and from Valenzuela City and Pampanga province. They first went to Bernardo's house in Hagonoy in Bulacan last July 25 to audition.
But they were asked to return on July 30, with Bernardo claiming his Japanese friends who wanted to see them had not yet arrived. This raised the women's suspicions.
Verification with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) showed Bernardo was not licensed to recruit nor deploy workers/talents abroad.
The women sought NBI assistance, and a sting operation was planned for the following afternoon. The NBI agents confronted Bernardo while he was interviewing the women, and arrested him and the three Japanese nationals.
Seized from the area were photos of applicants, employment contracts, passports, and schedules of payments to Bernardo. — LBG, GMA News
