Fil-Indian baby in UAE battling for life, needs help
A Filipino-Indian baby in the United Arab Emirates is fighting for her life as she is suffering from severe pulmonary hypertension, a UAE news site reported Wednesday.
Sristi Vaidya, daughter of an Indian father and a Filipina mother, was born last Aug. 2, after a 12-year wait by Parag Vaidya and his wife Liezl, Khaleej Times reported.
But Sristi was born prematurely and developed severe pulmonary hypertension. She is fighting for her life at the neonatal ICU (NICU) of Latifa Hospital, and her parents are seeking help for her treatment.
For now, Sristi needs to be kept on a ventilator and heavily medicated for at least two more months. Doctors said her lungs and heart are not fully developed.
“Depending on her condition, the length of her stay may increase,” Parag said.
He said he is earning Dh14,400 a month, but he and his wife "are not in a position to handle the mounting (medical) expenses.”
Liezl was a former volunteer at the charity organization "Volunteers in UAE."
She said she needs Dh3,900 daily to cover the cost of their baby’s hospitalization.
