Saudi labor ministry eases rules on sponsorship transfer –report
Newly recruited overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia may soon have an easier time looking for another sponsor but under certain circumstances, a Saudi news site reported Wednesday.
A newly recruited worker can seek another sponsor without permission if his company did not issue a work permit as it is in the Red or Yellow category, Arab News reported.
Citing an advisory of the ministry, the Arab News report said foreign workers may also seek a change in sponsorship if:
- their companies fail to produce work and residence permits within three months of their arrival
- the work permits and iqamas of other staff expire
A company in the Red or Yellow zone is not allowed to recruit foreign workers or renew the permits of its current expatriate staff.
The report said many Filipino workers welcomed the advisory. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
