OWWA 10 Conducts Basic Organizational Seminar for Aspiring OFW Family Circles
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --- Another 3 Basic Organizational Seminar (BOS) for JULY 2014 are conducted by Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration Regional Office 10 (OWWA R10) in Kalilangan, Bukidnon and Calamba, Misamis Occidental. Composing the organizations are active and non-active Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents representing the OFW Family Circles in their respective locations.
OWWA 10 assists these requesting parties from selection of officers, formation of vision and mission, giving them the run-through of an ideal organization characteristic as well as guiding them the government compliances if needed. Basically, they are taught on how to establish their organizations and in turn become sustainable along with OWWA’s programs and services.
Like any starting organizations, STAR OF THE SEA (SOS) from Iligan City is one of the known and fully established OFC’s in Region 10 composing of seafarer’s wives wherein they too went through OWWA’s BOC and proudly developed their active organization. SOS started off way back 2006 and is actively engaging in community social works.

SOS has definitely soared high since then. And at present, they conduct annual para-legal seminars on the rights of seafarers and updates on maritime laws, seminars on womanhood, attended consultation on migrant ministries of the Catholic Bishops Conference in the Philippines (CBCP), sponsor scholars, celebrate sportsfest and teambuilding. Not to mention also that one of their members grabbed the award as 2013 Model OFW Family –Region 10. SOS as of now has 83 members and is registered with Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE).
