Alert Level 2 raised in Sudan amid civil unrest —DFA


Alert Level 2 is now raised over Sudan due to the ongoing civil unrest in Khartoum and other areas, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
In an advisory dated June 13, the DFA said Alert Level 2 was officially raised in Sudan last June 7. The DFA warns Filipinos not to travel to the country.
Alert Level 2 is issued if there are real threats to the lives, security and properties of Filipinos due to instability in a particular country, according to the DFA.
"Filipinos who remain in the country where Alert Level 2 is in effect are advised to restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places and prepare for evacuation," the DFA said.
The Department of Labor and Employment, for its part, will only allow the return of Filipinos working in Sudan if they have existing employment contracts as well as consideration of other special circumstances.
The DFA said Filipinos in Sudan, who are in need of assistance, may contact the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt through this number: (+202) 252-13062.

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
