Pinoy seafarers on attacked ships in Arabian waters safe —Bello


There are no reported Filipino casualties during separate attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on June 13, the labor department said Tuesday.
Also, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the seafarers will be provided assistance to ensure their safety and security.
“We are extending assistance, if necessary, to our seafarers which include repatriation and protection in high-risk zones," Bello said.
Likewise, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will coordinate with the manning agency of the seafarers for the needed assistance, he added. 
Reports indicated the attacked ship in the Gulf of Oman—the Marshall-Islands flagged tanker Front Altair Ship was manned by 11 Filipinos, 11 Russians, and a Georgian.  It was heading to Taiwan from Qatar when the explosion happened, reports said.
According to the statement of the Front Altair, the crew members were transferred to an Iranian navy vessel and disembarked at a local Iranian port.
The second tanker was a Panama-flagged ship heading from a port in Saudi Arabia towards Singapore when a fire broke out approximately 28 miles from Jask, Iran. —LBG, GMA News

STAR / Michael Varcas MANILA, Philippines — While Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) have decreased in number, they have maintained a presence in three key land features where naval and coast guard ships have intensified operations in the past seven days, according to the Philippine Navy. MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) sees social media as the main reason for the rising number of Filipinos marrying or becoming partners of foreign nationals. In 2022, the CFO recorded 6,854 marriages or partnerships with foreign nationals, a 40.1 percent increase from the 4,891 “intermarriages” recorded in 2021. “First of all, what we see in the increase in the marriage rate of Filipinos or Filipinos with foreign partners is because of social media, (that) is number one; matchings; letters, introduction of their friends,” CFO chairperson Romulo Arugay said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing yesterday.
