Operatives of the women and children's desk of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) nabbed Thursday an alleged illegal recruiter in an entrapment operation.

Police set out to ensnare Helen Mendoza, 31, a resident of Masuhod Drive, Tumaga village in the city, after Mila Atilano, 53, a resident of Sta. Catalina village, filed a complaint against the suspect at the ZCPO.

Atilano told the police that Mendoza recruited her 21-year-old daughter, Daneth, to work as domestic helper in Malaysia sometime in the first week of this month.

Daneth left for Malaysia on February 9 and upon arrival she was forced to work as guest relations officer instead of domestic helper as promised.

Mendoza was arrested after receiving P15,000 marked money given as placement fee by another applicant she recruited.

The arrest which coincided with the three-day seminar-workshop for service providers on the Philippine Guidelines to Protect the Rights of the Children Victims of Trafficking took place at around 3 p.m. Thursday inside a fast food chain in a downtown mall.

The ZCPO is coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs to help bring home Mendoza's victim who is still in Malaysia. - Sun.Star
