“Inay Yaya” or Mother Nanny of Unitel Productions won the Children’s Jury Award in the recent International Children’s Film Festival held in Tel Aviv, Israel from 24 to 27 September.

Philippine Ambassador to Israel Petronila P. Garcia accepted the award from Ms. Gila Almagor, the First Lady of the Israeli Theater and Cinema, on behalf of Unitel Production.

“Inay Yaya” was the first Philippine film entry in the International Children’s Festival in Tel Aviv. The children, who composed the official jury of the festival, explained that they chose “Inay Yaya” because they were able to identify themselves in the movie.

“Inay Yaya” was also the featured film at the Opening ceremonies of the film festival at the Tel Aviv Cinemateque on 24 September. Ambassador Garcia hosted a cocktail during the opening ceremonies which was attended by Israeli Minister of Science, Culture and Sports, H.E. Galeb Majadle, Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, Ms. Gila Almagor and other important personalities.

The Filipino Community in Israel came in droves to show their support for the film. A special screening of “Inay Yaya” for the Filipino community was held after the closing ceremonies on 27 September.

The Tel Aviv International Children’s Festival is aimed at increasing awareness of the needs and dreams of the younger generation, to deepen their viewing grasp, and contribute to the lively cultural dialogue among countries in the world. "The exposure to content dealing with children and families combined artistic and educational value is an important milestone, both currently and in the future” said Ms. Michal Matus, Festival Director. Ms. Matus hailed “Inay Yaya” as one of the best films shown in the four years of the festival.

The 4th International Children’s Festival awarded two other individual prizes during the conclusion of the event: “Max Minsky and Me” from Germany received the Adult Jury Award; and “Dunya and Daisy” from The Netherlands received the Cisej Award (A Canadian Organization supporting Children’s Welfare).DFA News
