Japanese banned from entering RP for abusing Filipina wife

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government has banned a Japanese man from entering the country for allegedly maltreating his Filipina wife in Japan.

Shinichi Ikeda, 59, has been placed on the immigration blacklist order following a request made by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said in a statement Sunday.

Libanan said Ikeda is a subject of a complaint for domestic violence filed by his Filipina wife.

"A foreigner who beats his wife is a menace to the society and who does not deserve our hospitality," the Immigration commissioner said.

Libanan said the DFA had already issued a circular to all Philippine missions abroad ordering them not to issue Philippine visa to Ikeda, who is now considered an undesirable alien.

According to the DFA report, Ikeda's wife filed a complaint with the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo last November 18.

In her affidavit, the victim, whose name was withheld, said that on November 16, Ikeda promised to bring her to Narita Airport for her return trip to the Philippines. But instead of bringing her to the airport, she was allegedly brought to a secluded area in Chiba.

In Chiba, the victim said the suspect chained and locked her inside a container van, shaved her hair, and raped her several times.

The victim further said that she was able to escape and sought the help of the police, who brought her to the China Women's Support Center, which later contacted the Philippine Embassy.

She said she met Ikeda at a night club in Japan where she was working as an entertainer. The two got married in the Philippines in 2007. - GMANews.TV
