PhilHealth ReachOut Goes to PMA

Last November 14, 2012, PhilHealth, together with the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), conducted the first ever ReachOut Forum at the PMA Auditorium in Quezon City. The officers of the different specialty and regional societies were present with a total of 170 physicians attending the event.
In the past, there were have been clamor regarding unreleased cheques, poor communication between PhilHealth and healthcare professionals, and circulars that were difficult to understand. ReachOut was conceptualized to meet these needs of health professionals. It aims to strengthen the relationship between PhilHealth and its health care agents by improving their participation in the delivery of quality health care services.
The event directly informed them of the new policies/circulars and allows immediate feedback through interactive lectures and open forums. It also served as a venue where they could inquire and obtain unclaimed cheques and identification cards. In addition, a booth for application or renewal of accreditation was available on site.
The PhilHealth-PMA ReachOut Forum started with former PMA President Dr. Rey Santos’ opening remarks followed by a short talk about Universal Healthcare by PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Eduardo P. Banzon. The lecture series went about with Dr. Marifel Tolentino, co-chair of Project ReachOut giving an informative talk about physician engagement. Dr. Lambert David, Head of the Project Management Team, followed with a presentation on the claims process while Dr. Robert So, Senior Manager of Benefits Development and Research Department discussed Benefits Expansion Strategies and Targets, which concluded the lecture series.
The presentations were capped with a Q & A session. Dr. Francisco Soria, Vice-President of the Quality Assurance Group and ReachOut Chair delivered the closing statements.
The ReachOut Forum shall be rolled-out in 2013 to various partner hospitals in the Philippines through PhilHealth’s regional offices. (END).
