Secretary Baldoz cautions residents of typhoon areas against illegal recruiters

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda-Dimapilis Baldoz advised residents of Samar, Leyte,
Antique, Palawan, Capiz, Aklan and other neighboring provinces or places affected by
typhoon Yolanda to be wary of illegal recruiters in their respective areas.

The same warning applies to those who have left the affected provinces and have gone
to Metro Manila, Cebu or elsewhere, as they too may be vulnerable to illegal job offers
and exploitative practices.

For his part, POEA Administrator Hans Cacdac said illegal recruiters are likely to take
advantage of people who are in urgent need of source of income, which they lost during
the strong typhoon.

The DOLE and POEA have issued similar warnings to residents of areas hit hard by the
earthquake in Bohol and Cebu, and by renegade unrest in Zamboanga City.

Secretary Baldoz advised applicants from the calamity areas to verify with the POEA,
OWWA, or the Department of Labor and Employment if the recruiter has a valid license

or authorization to recruit OFWs before accepting any job offer.
