MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday warned Filipinos against individuals and agencies recruiting workers to conflict-stricken Libya.
In a statement, the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli reiterated that government has ordered a total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers.
"Only Filipinos who are in possession of existing work contracts and certificates of exemption from the Embassy and who are on vacation in the Philippines are allowed to return to Libya," it said.
Those found in violation will face charges in accordance with the Anti-Trafficking Persons Act and Migrant Workers Act, the DFA said.
The agency urged the public to report illegal recruitment activities to the authorities.
It said it is coordinating with Libyan authorities to ensure the safety of Filipinos in Libya.
As of May, only 70 out of 1,000 Filipinos have been repatriated from Libya since fighting broke out between the eastern Libyan National Army and government forces in April.
