PRC distributes masks to OFWs returning to HK

March 06, 2020

THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) distributed 27,000 masks to around 5,500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returning to Hong Kong to protect themselves from the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to PRC, each of the OFWs received a week supply of masks or five to eight masks.
The PRC has chosen to distribute masks to OFWs going to Hong Kong, because of the recorded high number of cases in that country.
As part of its information drive, PRC also placed tarpaulins at the airport containing reminders how to not get infected of the new disease.
According to PRC, wearing a mask is one of the effective ways not to get infected of the COVID-19.
On February 18, 2020, OFWs were allowed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Infectious Diseases to return to their jobs in Hong Kong.
PRC said that their staff and volunteers are continuously distributing masks to OFWs bound to Hong Kong.
