Filipinos in Italy warned vs. heat wave --- By GMA Integrated News

The Philippine Embassy in Italy has cautioned Filipinos there, particularly the vulnerable sector, to be wary of the possible effects of the heat wave currently affecting several southern European countries. In an advisory, the Embassy said the Italian Ministry of Health has issued a heat wave bulletin which indicated red alert levels in some cities in Italy. Temperatures may reach as high as 40°C and may last until the next few days, it added. “All Filipino nationals in Italy, especially the elderly, infants, children, and pregnant women, are advised to take the necessary precautions and to be cautious of the negative effects caused by high temperatures,” the Embassy said. Italy earlier issued hot weather red alerts for its 16 cities as meteorologists warned that temperatures will hit record highs across southern Europe in the coming days, Reuters reported. Aside from Rome, the health alerts were raised from the central city of Florence to Palermo in Sicily and Bari, in the southeast of the peninsula. Spain and Greece have also been reportedly suffering from scorching temperatures for several days now, affecting their agriculture and tourists. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
