Jealousy drives OFW’s husband to stab 2 kids, take own life in Pangasinan

Jealousy drove the husband of a UAE-based overseas Filipino worker to stab his own children before taking his own life in Binmaley, Pangasinan, over the weekend. The man got angry when he saw a photo on his wife's Facebook account showing her with another man, GMA Dagupan's Joanne Ponsoy reported Monday. "Yung mga taga-rito, may ipinakita sa Facebook na may katabing lalaki, Arabo yata. Nakalagay doon, 'this is my new wife.' [Ang pinsan ko], dinibdib niya at nanginginig," the suspect's cousin said. Before taking his own life, the man stabbed his two children who are now under observation at a hospital. "Uminom ng alak, biglang sinaksak ang anak at stepson," said Inspector Cesario Fernandez, deputy police chief of Binmaley. "May maingay sabi ng anak ko, umiiyak. Pinuntahan ko, sinilip ko sa kurtina. Philippine and Israel officials are pushing for the early approval of a bilateral labor agreement that will benefit more or less 20,000 Filipino caregivers in the Middle Eastern country. A statement from the Philippine Embassy in Israel said Ambassador Nathaniel G. Among the topics discussed, according to the embassy, is the reduction of "mediation fees" by private recruitment agencies which is seen as th ereason for the decline in the number of Filipino workers in Israel. "The Deputy Prime Minister agreed that this practice is unfair for the workers," the embassy said, referring to the collection of mediation fees by private recruitment firms.   The embassy said the two officials agreed that this issue could be addressed through a Bilateral Labor Agreement (BLA), "which both the Philippine and Israeli sides are keen to sign at th...

Senior Citizen Organizations Tapped for Communication Plan Development

Image
“For Senior Citizens, By Senior Citizens.” This is the battle cry of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) as it actively involves the elderly community in the development of a communication plan for senior citizens. As part of its initiatives to further strengthen its information drive, PhilHealth, through its Corporate Marketing Department, recently conducted a consultation meeting with representatives of various senior citizen organizations (SCOs) at its Head Office in Pasig City. The meeting was aimed at closely collaborating with the elderly community in crafting a communication plan for senior citizens. PhilHealth deems it best to work together with representatives of the very recipient and audience of the communication plan – the senior citizens themselves – in order to get first-hand information on what works best for them. During the activity, the SCO representatives did not show any sign of exhaustion nor restlessness as they actively r...
