Deployment of female OFWs grew 42% in 10-year period

MANILA, Philippines - Though there were more Filipino male than female overseas workers, the growth in the deployment of female OFWs was faster than that of male OFWs in a 10-year period, data culled by GMANews.TV from the National Statistics Office (NSO) showed.

Based on available data from the NSO, the number of documented female OFWs jumped by 42.2 percent to 539,000 in 2004 from 379,000 in 1995.

The deployment of their male counterparts grew by 25.9 percent to 524,000 in 2004 from 416,000 in 1995.
Overall, the deployment of documented OFWs grew by 33.3 percent to 1,063,000 from 795,000 during the same period.

On the average, there were 513,100 males, and 463,400 females who worked abroad yearly from 1995 to 2004.

Most female OFWs were deployed in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan.

It is in Asia were 84.9 percent of female OFWs were deployed, equivalent to 393,600 yearly from 1995 to 2004.

Most male OFWs worked in Saudi Arabia, Japan, USA, Taiwan, and Greece during the same period.

It is also in Asia where most male OFWs were deployed. On the average, there were 369,400 male OFWs who worked in the region yearly. - AR Sabangan, GMANews.TV
