Free calls to RP from Filipinos in UAE June 13
MANILA, Philippines - Low-income and unskilled Filipino workers in Dubai and northern regions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can enjoy free calls to the Philippines this Friday, June 13.
Online news site Khaleej Times reported Wednesday that the free calls can be made at Al Nasr Leisureland from 11 a.m. onwards.
It said the free calls offered by du, one of the main sponsors of the event, will kick off the day-long celebrations in Dubai of the 110th Philippine Independence Day.
Some 4,000 Filipino expatriates and other nationalities with Filipino spouses are expected to join the celebrations.
Art Los Baños, chairman of the organizing committee in Dubai and Northern Emirates, said the free call is one of two novel attractions for this year's event.
He said the other attraction is the Job Fair, which is intended to assist Filipinos looking for jobs in the UAE or those looking to change companies.
"Job-seekers should bring their CVs with them," he said.
Main sponsors including du, which offered the free calls, and Orbit and Western Union, will bring GMA 7 talents Gian Magdangal and Teri Onor to perform there Friday afternoon.
Los Baños also said more than 40 participants will take part at a mini-bazaar, including real estate companies in the Philippines, money remittance centers in the UAE, and Roshan Construction LLC, a leader in turnkey industrial construction of all kinds of pre-engineered steel buildings in Dubai.
Friday's events will also include a mini-fashion show at 8 p.m. from the Giordano Fashion House where models will come from the Filipino community in Dubai.
A "Palarong Pinoy" at 4 p.m. and ballroom dancing competition at 7 p.m. are open for all who wish to vie for the honors. Capping the event is a disco by Pinoy Band at 9:30 p.m. - GMANews.TV
