More job opportunities offered to Pinoys in Canada

MANILA, Philippines - More jobs await qualified overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Canada as the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) informed that groups of Canadian employers are currently in the Philippines to conduct a recruitment mission.

The employers in Canada who arrived in the country on May 24 (Saturday) will stay in the Philippines for one week with the aim to hire more OFWs.

Rosalinda Baldoz, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrator said, “A large number of employers with similar large number of job vacancies from the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan are now in a week-long recruitment mission here."

Baldoz emphasized that recruitment will be done through the licensed recruitment agencies and jobseekers will not be asked to pay any placement fee.

The POEA chief added, "For the past years, employers from Saskatchewan have been conducting recruitment missions here and hiring Filipino welders, butchers, food handlers and other skilled workers."

The Canadian employers, mostly from the cities of Regina and Saskatoon, will personally interview the applicants pre-selected by the licensed recruitment agencies.

Aside from the Canadian provinces mentioned, other provinces like Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba have expressed their desire to deploy more OFWs.

The Minister for Advance Education and Employment of Saskatchewan, Canada, Rob Norris is presently in Manila to discuss with the Philippine government employment opportunities for OFWs.
