Filipino nuns to open 1st mission house in Vietnam
MANILA, Philippines - Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation (OSA) will soon open their first mission house in Vietnam, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said Thursday.
The CBCP website said superior genereal Sr. Ma. Luz Mijares and novice directress Sr. Juliet Flores are now in Vietnam to study the details.
"During our week long stay in Vinha Long, Msgr. Van Tai suggested that we offer English lessons as the occasion to meet with the people in their pastoral center. We will listen to God's summons to us in a new land (Vietnam) for the congregation," Mijares said.
Msgr. Pietro Nguyen Van Tai, a Vietnamese priest who had worked with Radio Veritas Asia in Manila for the last 20 years, accompanied the two.
The congregation's new mission house is a response to an invitation from the Bishop of the Diocese of Vinh Long in Vietnam, Thomas Nguyên Van Tan.
Bishop Van Tan delegated Msgr. Van Tai to be the host for the nuns in Vietnam, the CBCP said.
In the Philippines, OSA nuns work in Bicol, Cebu, Luzon, Negros, and Mindanao. Their foreign missions include Australia, Italy, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand.
There are about 236 nuns, out of which about 20 of them work in the foreign missions. Their mission is to work in socio-pastoral ministries and schools. - GMANews.TV
