For first time, family sees remains of wealthy Pinay murdered in UAE weeks ago
More than two weeks after a wealthy Filipina was found murdered in the trunk of her car in the United Arab Emirates, her family finally managed to see her body last weekend.
However, according to a report of the news site Gulf News on Monday, the family of Lorna Lim Varona still cannot bring her body home to the Philippines as UAE authorities have yet to release her body.
The report quoted Varona’s eldest daughter Maria Lourdes as saying, "When we saw her (Saturday), that’s when it dawned on us that she’s really gone. It was a very sad day for us, and for Dad, as we were seeing Mum for the first time since she was reported dead.”
Maria Lourdes and her sister Maria Liza are managing the four businesses that Lorna owned before she was killed.
Varona, 51, was found dead inside the trunk of her car in Sharjah on Aug. 31. Her body bore six stab wounds.
The police have arrested a Filipino family friend who reportedly confessed to the crime.
Earlier, Varona's family said they had not had any chance to truly grieve for her.
“As long as we haven’t laid her to rest yet, I will never be at peace,” Lorna's husband Pablo said in an earlier interview with Gulf News.
Varona's family plans to hold a week-long wake for her at Holy Trinity Memorial Chapel in ParaƱaque City once her remains are brought to the Philippines. - VVP, GMA News
