PDEA reminds travelers vs. drug rings after Pinoy convicted in Hong Kong for heroin
Anti-drug operatives on Monday reminded Filipino travelers not to carry other people's luggage, after a Filipino was convicted in Hong Kong last week for an alleged attempt to smuggle heroin there in July 2011.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) particularly urged travelers not to accommodate the requests of supposed travelers to carry their bags or luggage for them, radio dzBB reported on Monday.
The request to carry another person's luggage has long been a modus operandi of rings engaged in drug smuggling and trafficking, PDEA said.
On Aug. 30, a Hong Kong court convicted a Filipino from Cavite province for drug trafficking.
Customs authorities there found nine kilos of heroin and morphine in his luggage in July 2011.
