Arab News said the Saudi Embassy in Manila announced the pardon last weekend but did not release the names of those pardoned.
Saudi Charge d’Affaires Abdulelah A.A. Aljebreen said clemency "distinguishes the Kingdom from the rest of the world as it preserves the family entity and social relationships and makes the pardoned ones feel the tolerance of Islam.”
Granting of pardon
The Saudi government usually grants pardon right after the observance of Ramadan to convicted offenders of petty crimes, the Arab News report said.
It added that the clemency affirms the friendship between Saudi Arabia and the Philippines.
At least 1.2 million Filipinos are working in the Kingdom, which has topped the list of destinations for OFWs for the last 15 years. - VVP, GMA News
