PHL consul: No report of Pinoy casualties in Boston blasts
At least 10 Filipinos took part in this year's Boston Marathon but there has so far been no report of Filipinos being among the casualties in the blasts that marred the event, Philippine officials said early Tuesday.
Consul General to New York Mario de Leon Jr., whose area of responsibility includes Boston, said he continues to coordinate with the Filipino community for updates.
"I had the opportunity to talk with one of the marathoners na Pilipino. Sabi niya alam niya 10 nag-participate niyan," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
But he said information from Filipino volunteer groups like the Philippine Nurses Association in New England showed there were no Filipino casualties.
De Leon said there are about 18,600 Filipinos based in the entire Massachusetts area.
"Ang latest information sa kanila walang reported casualties from the Filipino community or participants," he said.
