Pinoy loses appeal, gets longer jail term from UAE appeals court

A Filipino trader, who was convicted of killing his Filipina business partner by a United Arab Emirates lower court, not only lost his appeal but also had his jail sentence lengthened by the Appeals Court.

“The court has canceled the defendant’s 15-year imprisonment and he will have to serve a life sentence. The deportation order has been upheld as well,” said presiding judge Eisa Al Sharif, according to a Sunday report by Gulf News.

However, the ruling remains subject to appeal within 30 days before the Cassation Court.

The trader was convicted of killing his Filipina business partner, whom he had invited to his Karama flat for a business discussion.

But the two had an argument over money, and the trader stabbed the Filipina to death.

The Filipina's body was found Aug. 26, 2012 in the boot of her car, which was abandoned at an industrial area.  Joel Locsin/DVM, GMA News
