Pinoy roofer becomes hero to injured letter carrier in Canada
A Canada-based Filipino worker has become a hero to a letter carrier in Calgary who suffered a leg injury after falling on ice while on duty.
Roofer Melvin Laureano and two colleagues were working on March 12 when they heard a distant voice of a woman crying for help.
The voice was that of Alana Hall, a letter carrier for Canada Post who broke her right leg after she slipped on ice while getting out of her car.
According to a report on the Calgary Sun, Hall's right leg was “mangled” and was “facing in the wrong direction.” Hall herself said her leg “didn't have a pulse.”
“I felt my leg break as I fell — and then I was on the ground, and couldn’t move,” Hall said in the Calgary Sun report.
With her cellphone in her vehicle and out of reach, Hall resorted to shouting for help. However, the report pointed out that the street was deserted, with the houses “sealed on the cold.”
Luckily, Laureano heard Hall's cries for help.
“We were on the roof, working on the eavestrough, when we heard a lady calling, ‘Help me, I broke my leg’,” said Laureano, foreman of the small crew, in the report.
Together with his two fellow roofers, Laureano found Hall “crawling on the ground.”
“It was really bad — literally hanging off,” said Laureano, describing Hall's broken leg.
The three then called an ambulance, which brought Hall to a hospital.
In the Calgary Sun report, Hall, who is now recuperating at her home, said she has already personally thanked her roofer heroes.
