Pinay lawyer leaves New York to be a public attorney in PHL

A US-based Filipino lawyer has decided to forsake fashionable New York in favor of the Philippines where she intends to work as a public attorney representing the poor in legal cases. Neneth Aporo surprised her parents when she guested at GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday. Her parents, Bonifacio and Elsie, who were also guests in the program, thought she would be coming home in December. "Akala ko Skype lang," said Bonifacio, a former policeman in Tondo who could not hide how proud he is with his daughter. WE SENT LAWYERS NOT MARINES War never option in sea dispute with China, Carpio says

War was never an option whenever the Philippines asserted its rightful claims in the South China Sea, Acting Chief Antonio Carpio said on Monday. Carpio made the remark amid recent statements by President Rodrigo Duterte that he would have asserted the country's jurisdiction in the disputed waters if it didn't mean going to war with China. Duterte has repeatedly indicated that the country would not have a chance against the might Chinese armed forces. "I think it’s a false choice, false option because war is not an option and it’s never been an option and it would be unconstitutional to the Philippines to go to war to assert its sovereign rights in West Philippine Sea," Carpio told News To Go. The West Philippine Sea is that part of the South China Sea which the Philippines claims. "Sabi ng Constitution natin, we renounce war as an instrument of social policy so we should not even talk about war because we do not go to war. Bawal... The constituti...

PNP CHIEF MEETS ‘THE CHIEFS’ | Human rights still a priority in war on drugs – AlbayaldE

9 hours ago MAY 28, 2018 – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Oscar Albayalde said human rights is still foremost in the police’s campaign against drugs and asserted that the police force is not lacking in training about human rights awareness in their operations. “The rules of engagement is paramount in every police operation, and respect for human rights is one of them,” he said. The Police Chief added that this is the reason why police operatives are instructed to conduct outright investigations into cases that are perceived as unjustly executed or were done without due process. But while he raised the issue of respect for human rights, Albayalde also said the safety of police operatives is equally important and this is required in situations that are too dangerous during police operations. In his talk with The Chiefs hosts Amy Pamintuan, Ed Lingao and Roby Alampay on One News Cignal TV News Channel, Albayalde said police safety and pr...
