President Rodrigo Duterte has reappointed his special envoys to China and Australia, documents released by Malacañang on Monday show.
Duterte kept Cheng Yong and Miguel Ayala as his special envoys to China and Australia, respectively, based on appointment papers signed by the President on May 23.
Ayala will serve from July 1 to December 31, 2018. He was first named to the post in March last year.
Educator Dr. Amable Aguiluz V, meanwhile, was appointed special envoy to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a position the latter held during the time of former presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III.
The GCC is a political and economic alliance of six oil-rich countries in the Middle East: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.
Under Executive Order 594 issued by Arroyo in 2006, the President can call for the appointment or designation of persons "with expertise and experience to undertake special tasks or address certain issues, notably in international economic affairs," to ensure the conduct of effective foreign policy.
